The Houston Area Cooperative on the Gifted and Talented strives to offer quality professional development in gifted education presented by leading experts in the field. By combining our resources, we have been able to bring in experts like Carolyn Callahan, Nicholas Colangelo, Jim Delisle, Sandra Kaplan, Jann Leppien, Jack Naglieri, John Samara, Roger Taylor and Joyce Van Tassel-Baska. Your participation in the Coop provides teachers in your district/school the opportunity to train with the best in the field at a fraction of the cost of hosting these specialists in your own district/school.

There are two levels of participation: full and partial. Full participation gives your teachers a great deal of access to the professional development sessions offered. Partial participation provides your district/school with slots for a total of 25 attendees for the year and costs $300. Partial participants have the opportunity to purchase up to 2 partial levels for a total of 50 attendees. Full participation prices vary each year, depending upon the total costs. At the end of the year, the costs incurred (i.e., speaker honorariums and travel expenses) are divided among the full members. It’s usually $1800 - $2500. While your district/school is limited to 75 registered participants per session, there is usually room for walk-ins. Since the sessions are on Saturdays during the year, no substitutes are required. This is a bargain for professional development presented by such well known experts!

Your district/school must be registered in order for your teachers to participate. Registering is easy! Just complete the Houston Area Coop Participation Form and fax it to contact listed on the form. If you have questions, you are welcome to contact Dr. Lynette Breedlove.
