Houston Area Cooperative on the Gifted and Talented

Our goal is to provide teachers and parents in participating districts with quality professional development by experts in gifted education.

Who We Are

Public school districts and private schools that work together to offer professional development in gifted education. Scroll to the bottom to see a list of participating districts and private schools.

How It Works

Participating districts take turns hosting workshops. Teachers and parents from participating districts and private schools register for sessions within their schools/districts. Only teachers and parents from participating districts may attend (see the list at the bottom of this page). Most districts use their district online professional development systems for registration. If you are unsure of how to register, contact the leader of the GT program in your district/private school. Contact information is available at the bottom of this page. Registration closes two weeks before the workshop. Districts/private schools send their rosters of registered participants to the host district.

Teachers who do not register with their districts/private schools at least two weeks before the workshop will not be listed on the roster. They are welcome to try to attend the workshop as walk-ins. Walk-ins will be given available seats on a first-come, first-served basis immediately before the workshop begins. If a walk-in is given an available seat, he/she will be able to sign in on the appropriate district/private school's roster.

Sign-in at the workshops always begins at 8:00 a.m. The workshops always begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 4:00 p.m. Lunch is usually from 11:30 to 1:00. The Coop has a very strict late policy. This is due to the clock hour requirement for GT training described in the Texas Administrative Code, the size of the sessions, and the many districts participating. Teachers sign in when they arrive in the morning and when they return from lunch. We understand that things don't always work out the way we plan. Unforeseen complication can result in a responsible person being late. If you arrive late, we will document the time you arrived. The sign-in sheet will be sent to the person responsible for the GT program in your district/school. That person will work with you to make up the time you missed so you may receive full credit or determine if partial credit it appropriate. Only the GT contact person in your district/school can make that decision. Workshop attendees are provided a certificate at the end of the workshop to document they stayed to the end. Be sure to send a copy of the certificate you receive to the GT contact person in your district so credit for attendance may be awarded.

At the workshop, we ask that all attendees wear their district issued identification badges. Parents will be asked to make a name tag.
